In Globaloria you will create a blog, join a team, develop a game, and present your game to students and faculty throughout the country. To accomplish the goal, we will have to learn from each other. When you graduate, neither I nor your other teachers will be leaving with you, so you must utilize your resources to find solutions; Globaloria is a stepping stone that will help you become a better problem solver. I'm glad you are here!

We need your input on Project Ideas
There are a lot of really neat ideas from the different teams for game ideas. Unfortunately, many could be better developed. As a group in Globaloria we are trying to come up with ideas that are civic/news literacy/citizenship in nature but can still include STEM. So, you are tasked to come up with one idea that could be developed into a game that includes the concepts above. I expect more than 1 sentence. This should be a thought out idea.

Paper Prototypes
Paper prototyping was underway today. Next year we need to focus more on the practice runs before we actually video. We decided to do the actual taping in a separate room, to allow for less distractions.

Flash Game Descriptions
Team briefings of the game ideas went well. Presentations were given on the day before Halloween, so, costumes it was. You can find the flash presentations on the individual team pages, but here's some pictures from the briefings.

Text Flash
Most everyone has completed their presentation on their game plans and their text flash. Sounds like we have some pretty good concepts, but they need developed. Things that were introduced during the presentations:
Layers - remember that the order of your layers determines what appears on the top of your flash. See Mikayla if you have questions about doing this. She incorporated the idea into her text flash.
Drawing - Mark did a great job of drawing his own lab. Everyone will be using the drawing tools to develop their games, so if you need help, try Mark.
Special Effects - Kadie set up her flash presentation so that the character moves. She has uploaded her file, so check it out if you want to learn how she did that.
Sizing - several people had to resize their picture before including it in the flash slide.
Font - lots of cool font choices.
Overall, Good Job.

Flash Game Descriptions
I'm glad everyone is getting the hang of the mini game, but it's time to move on. You are still responsible to upload each step onto your project page, but, that cannot take the entire class period. So, time to get your flash assignment started. Each team member must create their own flash page that explains their game concept. You must incorporate something extra (not just the words). You could include a picture, moving graphics, word enhancements, etc. Be creative. You should upload your description on your personal projects page, then on your team projects page, an example of each should be included. (so if you have three team members, there should be 3 flash pages). Your team will present these at Thursday's class.

Mini Game
Yeah!!!!!! Everyone has a carrot that is on the right side of the screen. It's good to see students checking their brackets and semi-colons before announcing that "It doesn't work". One really common mistake seemed to be forgetting to assign an instance name. A couple of hints to make your life easier is to always keep the action layer on the top, and to keep your code neat. It's a lot easier to find errors if you keep the ending brackets on a line by themselves and indent your coding.
